Gross weight on a trailer is the total load of everything combined, cargo, ballast (if any), and hitch’s rated capacity. The net weight (maximum allowed) can be found in your state’s Department of Transportation website under “commercial vehicles” or something to that effect. Your license plate should show your maximum allowed gross weight.
